The East End Summer Music Series brings regularly scheduled live jazz and blues back home to East 11th Street and establishes Kenny Dorham's Backyard as a key East Side summer destination for African American culture-based music programming. Located 3 blocks east of I-35 in the center of the historic East 11th Street entertainment district and the current revitalization zone, within walking distance of Central East Austin neighborhoods, Huston-Tilotson University, and next door to the legendary Victory Grill, Kenny Dorham's Backyard will provide a much needed venue for music and cultural events long absent in Central East Austin.
DiverseArts hopes to offer local East End residents and businesses a safe, casual and comfortable community gathering place that reflects the identity of the area; and affords the East End another reason to invite the rest of Austin to venture across the "tracks" to experience the exciting atmosphere of growth and rebirth of one of our City's most
historically significant downtown neighborhoods.

The Thursday series---the first regularly scheduled jazz and blues on
East 11th Street in many years---will function as the programming anchor
of the balance of DiverseArts' 2005 Season, but stay tuned for news about
future special events planned for Kenny Dorham's Backyard. The outdoor
site is partially tree shaded, grassy and works well as a natural
amphitheater. A limited number of tables and chairs are
available, but we also encourage families to come and spread a blanket on
the grass. Food, water, soft drinks, and beer are available for purchase.
Please, no ice chests.
Sponsorship, vending, and volunteer opportunities available for the
series and up-coming special events. Area nonprofits are encouraged to
contact us if interested in co-production opportunities or renting the
space for events and fundraisers.
